THE latest local artist to try Hollywood is Jericho Rosales whose movie was screened in the US titled “Subject: I Love You” which we hope and pray will make the grade.
There were a dozen names or so in the past, who tried that elusive dream but only a few were lucky enough. Some of them upon the advice of some so-called authorities in the local industry even stayed for a while in Hollywood, got an agent and auditioned but just the same, waited for an assignment that didn’t come.
So they all came home without the bacon in their hands. Some of those who made it include Charice Pempengco who can be assured by no less than powerful names in the business like Oprah Winfrey and David Foster a good future as a singer/performer. Of course, the name Lea Salonga also rings a bell as far as Broadway is concerned. She even bagged a Tony Award and several more prestigious international awards to boot through her role as Kim in Miss Saigon.
Martin Nievera, Imelda Papin, Gary Valenciano and other big Filipino recording artists had a few occasions to show what they got but that’s about it. Lani Misalucha is another exception as we saw with our own two eyes how she enjoyed a good chunk of international crowd at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. Well, we just wish Jericho the best.
