Have you heard about "Swap Miami"?

Today I discovered a brand new event in town and I couldn't wait to write this post. Introducing: Swap Miami! The first shopping event of its kind, Swap Miami is being hosted by Super Market Creative and Creative Mafia on Saturday, May 22nd, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. This is the latest way to "reduce, reuse and recycle" in Miami! Sift through your closets and get ready to simplify your life. At the event, there will be fashion stylists, furniture designers and retailers who will appraise your items so you can swap with other guests. You are encouraged to bring quality items that have been gently used. Acceptable goods include: clothing, accessories, home decor and accent furniture. Swap Miami guests will enjoy complimentary cocktails and some light treats. All left over items will be donated to charity. Sounds like a win-win situation! Swap Miami will take place at Cafeina in the Design District (297 NW 23rd Street). Tickets may be purchased online and range from $10 to $15. For more information, visit www.SwapMiami.com. Start de-cluttering your life and swap for a good cause!

Lotus House Thrift Store in Midtown Miami

Last September, a new kind of thrift store opened in Miami to benefit the Lotus House Women's Shelter operated by the Sundari Foundation. Lotus House Thrift is location at 203 NW 36th Street (corner of NW 2nd Ave), bordering the edge of Midtown and the Design District. This special store specializes in designer vintage, like new and gently used clothing, furnishings, collectables and more, all at great prices for today’s cost conscious shopper.
The Lotus House is a shelter located in Overtown, Miami. This unique resource center opens its doors to 130 women and children annually. At the shelter, the women are nurtured and supported to help them achieve greater self sufficiency by building a better way of life for themselves and their children. The goal is to help them transition into a permanent home off the streets. Lotus House Thrift is actually run and staffed entirely by Lotus House guests and alumni. If you love to shop, why not give back to your community and help women who are seeking a better lifestyle themselves. Your contributions will fund services such as individual and group counseling, computer lessons, medical and mental health services.
Lotus House Thrift is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Shoppers may also drop off items during these hours. For more information about the Sundari Foundation, The Lotus House or Lotus House Thrift, visit http://www.lotushouseshelter.org/. Shop for a good cause and share this cool thrift shop with your friends!
