Why did you enter show business?
When Tita Anabelle asked me if I wanted to be in this business, I immediately said yes because it’s the perfect timing and the thought of acting and dancing in front of a lot of people kept me exited. And ok yung pay. Hehe. But as time goes by, I learned to really love what I’m doing. I know that there’s a purpose why I’m here. I’m passionate about this and I want to keep on learning.

What do you consider as the turning point in your career?
Playing the role of Vanessa in Kung Mamahalin Mo Lang Ako. It’s my first soap na isa ko sa mga bida.

If you weren’t in showbiz, what kind of career would you have?
I’d probably continue my modeling career. I might be a pre-school teacher or a chef.

What is your biggest frustration/regret?
I wish I can sing really well.

What do most people don’t know about you?
That I’m a really shy person. I’m usually quiet and a loner. I sometimes go to malls by myself. And I still commute. I don’t have a car yet so I take a cab or MRT to tapings and stuff.

What is your most unforgettable moment/experience?
My first TV stint as one of the tagubas in Mulawin. I have worked with the entire cast and staff. It was really amazing.

What is your advice to aspiring artists? If you’re really passionate about this, then do it. It’s not just about getting rich and famous. It entails hard work, perseverance and determination. Maraming chismis and intriga, dapat malakas ang loob…..and just stay grounded….

I suppose God wanted it for me. GMA-7 called me after seeing an advertisement I did and asked me to go to the auditions for Capt. Barbell. I didn’t want to, but my parents made me… good thing they did because I got the role and am enjoying myself.

Hazel Reyes-Mathay, who is better known by her screen name Ara Mina (born May 9, 1979 in Manila, Philippines), is a Filipina actress, model and singer. She is a grand daughter of former Quezon City mayor Ishmael Mathay, Jr. She won the Golden Screen Award in 2004 for Best Actress in a drama in the Philippines. Since 1998, Mina has been a regular cast member of Bubble Gang, a sketch comedy television show in the Philippines.

She is the daughter of Chuck Mathay, a former Philippine congressman from Quezon City. Her sister Cristine Reyes is also an actress with GMA Network. She had to leave GMA and her show Bubble Gang due to ABS-CBN’s exclusive contract and having her show Prinsesa ng Banyera as Angelika de la Cruz’ replacement for her role.

Ara Mina is a mixture of everything nice and not. You can see her answer with straightforwardness all the intrigues thrown upon her, yet her sweetness reflects by her princess-style bedroom in her lucky house, which, unfortunately, is up for sale as of press time. But what makes Ara totally unique from all other sexy actresses and starlets emerging today?

Ever since, Ara Mina wanted to become part of the entertainment industry, perhaps inspired by her mother. At an early age of 7, she was already joining pageants sponsored by her school, where her usual talents will either be singing or acting. However, it was only in her stint in That’s Entertainment, hosted by German “Kuya Germs” Moreno, that she got the first taste of show business. She was 13 years old then.

And when she’s not needed in such scenes, Maricar attends to her regular day job as a medical practitioner.

“Actually, I’m still a general practitioner, since I just took the board exam last year,” she said, stopping short of divulging other details of her other profession.

Shamcey Supsup wins Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2011

Shamcey Supsup was crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Universe at the Binibining Pilipinas 2011 pageant held last night, April 10, at the Araneta Coliseum.

Shamcey, who was Binibini No. 26, bested 39 other contestants who competed in this year's pageant.

She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines College of Architecture. She also topped the Architecture board exam in July 2010.

Shamcey will represent the Philippines in the Miss Universe pageant to be held in Sao Paulo,Brazil on September 12, 2011.

Aside from winning Bb. Pilipinas-Universe, Shamcey also collected three special awards: Best in Talent, Miss PAL, and Miss Cream Silk.

Shamcey, 24, was not the only title holder at last night's pageant.

Last year's 1st runner-up, Dianne Necio (No. 33), returned this year and won the Bb. Pilipinas-International title; while Isabella Manjon (No. 25) was adjudged Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism (a replacement to the Bb. Pilipinas-World title, which has its own franchise).

Janine Tugonon (No. 27) finished 1st runner-up and Mary Jean Lastimosa (No. 34) was 2nd runner-up.
